As a local funeral director, and as one involved with the international shipping of human remains to and from various parts of the world, I would agree with 95 per cent of what was said in the article as being true and accurate. What I do however object Setting Dear Editor: Recently in Legislature, Mr. Howard, Member Skeena, made a very un- fortunate statement regarding myself as Chair- man of the Committee on Crown Corporations. The request was that | resign as Chairman, due, in his words, “to the fact that I did not call a meeting of the Committee for May 8, 1980." In order to clear any doubt left in your reader's minds, because of this totally irresponsible statement, = 1 would ask them to read the following motion of — the This land Dear Editor: I wonder how many people realize that the land the Frank for immediately south of the bndge over the Capilano River at the entrance to West Vancouver is owned by them, the public. For many years a car company has leased this land for stacking cars. Adjacent to the stacked cars is the former municipal works yard, now vacant, and also owned by the public. This whole area - the works yard and the car storage area - 1s now being considered by the couneil for a commercial development. This is most obvious in her closing sentence, and I quote, “Call HOME... first family, then the Memorial Society”. This may lead your readers to believe that funeral homes not connected with the Memonal! Society are unable to render the services outlined in her article. Any local funeral home will be able to provide the exact same service, and this May come as a shock to Memorial Society members, but many funeral homes provide these services at comparable, and even lower cost. For those who are really interested in saving money, a practical idea would be to compare funeral prices before they go on vacation, or before the need arises. I would certainly hope that by the use of totally mahcious and untrue state- ments against me, Mr. Howard does not intend to throw aspersions at a Committee which, I feel, to be very valuable to all British Columbians. Dear Editor: On Saturday, May 17th I attended the West Van- couver Secondary School's performance of “Fiddler on the Roof” Rarely does one come away from a professional performance completely satisfied, let alone a student one. But this production has a_ thoroughly professional and superior one, with the characters portrayeu 50 convincingly and with in- credible maturnty by these students, it was a production worthy of a Queen Elizabeth staging. 1 believe Vancouver is to see another staging of “Fiddler on the Roof’ in the near future. I don’t envy the people who are putting it together as they will be hard pressed to top. this production by West Van- couver’s students. To everyone involved with this production thanks for giving it to us it was worth a top price seat of fifteen dollars and the show as they say on Broadway was a smash hit for you. Mike Murchison West Vancouver Schools budget up only 6 per cent Dear Editor: I wish to clanfy some rather misleading = in- formation in a recent issue of your newspaper. Mayor Humphreys was quoted to have said that the School Board Budget has increased some twelve percent over last year. Let me _ please assure you that is not the case. In fact our budget this year reflects a net increase of approximately 6 percent. Moreover, for the first me, this year’s mill rate as set by the Board is practically the Same as in 1979. What this means to the average tax- payer is that, providing their assessments haven't in- creased, they will be paying about the same in school taxes as last year. Our Board continues to be responsible for decisions regarding educational costs in West Vancouver and I do feel that an informed public must be given correct in- formation to make informed decisions.
