Question: 1 recently received a call offering me a_ vacation package to Florida, at a far better price than we could get through a travel agent. | am tempted to go for the holiday offer but I seem to remember hearing cautions about these deals. Do you think it is safe to buy a trip this way? The statistic jumps to 75% among people who drown while fishing from small power extra cautious when making any purchase over the telephone. It is impossible to examine the mer- chandise and, because there is often pressure to make an instant decision, you may make a pur- chase you'll later regret. Impulse buying is never a good idea — no matter how much money you save. If something goes wrong, your chances of get- ting your money back are very slim. In the case of a_ vacation package, ask detailed questions to find out exactly what the price does and does not cover. Ask specifically for names of hotels, airlines and restaurants that your package | might include. Also inquire about cancellation drunken boaters boats. “It’s a matter of common sense,’’ said Graham, ‘‘drunk- enness makes you and your boat less steady. If you end up in the water, you will have more trouble taking care of yourself and others who might need your help.’’ The Red Cross is launching a campaign to make the public more aware of the dangers of drunken boating and the legal penalties. With the help of the Canadian Coast Guard and local police, they are hosting a series of boating safety presentations at marinas all over the province. Posters and brochures on boating and alcohol are being distributed to liquor stores, retail marine supply outlets and recre- ational centres.
