THE FOLLOWING is a selection
of volunteer opportunities avail-
able through North Shore Com-
munity Services (NSCS).

A HANDYMAN/WOMAN is
needed to do some gardening and
fixing up at a West Vancouver
church, The volunteer will receive
reimbursement for supplies and
the hours will be at his/her conve-
nience.

A TUTOR is requested to help
a man study math. The student is
upgrading his skills to qualify for
entry into ‘the British Columbia
Institute of Technology. The
hours are very flexible.

. PERFORMERS of all kinds. are

needed to’ entertain senior citizens

in a care facility. Pianists,
guitarists, singers, dancers and
reciters are welcome to volunteer
in either the afternoons or tven-
ings.

‘A HAIRDRESSER or barber is
needed in an adult daycare centre.
The hours are flexible and training
and orientation will be provided.

A MANAGER and = approxi-
mately six operators are needed to
run the Tuc Shop in a senior citi-
zens’ lodge. Volunteers must have
cash experience and be available
for two hours, three times a week.

Emily Murphy House is a transition house on Vancouver's North Shore |

that allows women and children to seek refuge from abusive or violent

situations. The women are made welcome, given appropriate cour-

selling and help in their search for shelter and safety on. the road to
renewal. In 1992, while Emily Murphy House helped 260 women and
children, they turned away over 500. Quite clearly they need more
room and are in the process of a “make-room capital campaign.”
