Press Council has launched an annual essay compe- tition for all secondary and post-secondary school students in B.C. The competition is meant to cncourige students to think about important issues involving journalism and its value to the health and well- being of a free: and demoecrat- ic. society. The -8.C. Press Council prize features two awards of $1,000 each for the hes vessay from a high school student and from a college or universi- ty student. The inaugural topic is: The Freedom of the Press and Its Responsibility. High school students will have a 1,500 word limit, post- secondary students 2 2,500 word limit. Entries must be received by June 30.
