THE North Shore
Lifeboat Society
(NSLS) is in desperate
need of public assis-
tance to help keep it
afloat.

It requires volunteers to
. ‘provide day-time coverage for
.one of its two lifeboats, which
are stationed at Fisherman's
. Cove in West Vancouver and
at Deep Cove in North
Vancouver.

The NSLS’s Patil Atterton
said the society currently has
no daytime -in Deep Cove
. crew, due, i in part, “to people

moving away and the dreaded
burn-out of being under-
manned.”

Prospective NSLS candi-

dates should be 19 years of .

age or older,

In addition, volunteers
should:
@ have a valid B.C. driver's
licence;
B be in good physical condi-
tion;
B have knowledge of the local
areas;
@ be available in 15 minutes
to respond to their designated
vessel:
M@ be "willing to attend train-

eS Ae willing to give a mini-
mum of three years commit-
ment;

a and be available : during the
day (6 aim. to 6 p.m.) to
respond to paging one week
out of four.

Volunteers with marine
training are preferred because
the Coast Guard Auxiliary
provides general and special-
ized marine training.

The NSLS performs
invaluable rescue services and
provides other assistance to
boaters ia the waters around
the North Shore.

. More people bave epilepsy than
M.S., Muscular Dystrophy and
" Cerebral Palsy combined.
