District staff collected applications and nominations during April, and council is now determining which of the 30 or so volunteers will fill seven appointments. The North Vancouver Transportation Advisory Committee (TPAC) was conceived last year by Coun. Ernie Crist. Crist has lobbied hard for several years for the extension of some ‘form of rapid transit connecting Vancouver to the North Shore. But lack of success with the Greater Vancouver Regional District and limited suc- cess at the local level. convinced him ro try to involve the public in planning and advocacy to agreater degree. . “The only way the GVRD might listen to common sense about rapid transit and stop making excuses for why it can’t be done is if enough people get involved and make it a pri- ority,” reasons Crist. ‘TPAC’s stated purpose is to advise countil on regional ‘and municipal transportation plan- ning and mobility issues.
