Driver loses control A 21-YEAR-OLD West Vancouver man escaped with vainor injuries Wednesday after the car he was driving went out of control and dropped over an embankment at the Capilano overpass on the Upper Levels Highway. According to a West Vancouver Police spokesman, the accident occurred at 10:45 a.m. John Carios Jones was driving a borrowed 1978 Mer- cury Cougar. As he travelled east the vehicle oversteered into a curve. The driver attempted to correct the direc- tion of the car, but the vehicle left the road and took out a piece of bridge railing. The car teetered momentarily on the edge of the over- pass and then dropped about 40 feet down an embank- meat before coming to a rest upright near Keith Road. Police say speed was not a factor in the accident. Kids’ rights THE THREE North Shore mayors have proclaimed to- gay as Children’s Rights Day. The declaration gives children ‘‘special protection to develop physically, mentally, morally, spiritually and socially in 2 healthy and normal manner and in condi- tions of freedom and dignity.’ The United Nations summit on the rights of the child held in 1990 recognized that 100 million children will die this decade if political policies governing the rights of children remain unchaaged. Meanwhile, today more than 1,500 B.C. students gathered at the Centennial Theatre in North Vancouver to discuss human rights.
