A meeting between Vancouver de- signers and representatives of Ca- nadian consulates from five coun- tries was recently organized by the federal government. Gillian Ward of B.C. Trade Development Corp. conducted the seminar which was directed toward designer members of the Designers and Fashion Association (DFA) and members of Van- couver's fashion design industry. The seminar, which was overseen by Kelly Millin, president of the DFA, introduced Vancouver de- signers to visiting consulate members from Brussels, Paris, London, Dusseldorf, New York, Seattle and Minneapolis. Each country’s Consulate member was responsible for the introduction, promotion and de- velopment of the consumer goods sector of Canadian industries within their country, and placed a priority on fashion and sporting goods. Enthusiastic support from the consulate was received, according to Millin who said, ‘‘They hope to grandly introduce and showcase Canadian designers and manufac- turers in their regions, and have offered support to work toward these goals.”’ — Carol Crenna At GYMBOREE, your first experience of FUN is FREE!
