Now, until Aug. 1, Wilson has her first-ever showing at the Arts Club Theatre on Seymour Street in Vancouver — and seven of her twelve bright acrylic paintings have already sold for $100 each. “T want to paint, sell them and not have a day job,”’ said Wilson, 27, who works at a downtown theatre to support herself. She began her professional art career five years ago, drawing “Sale’’ signs for a bakery where she worked. “People kept asking where they could buy those signs and asking why I was working in a bakery,” she said. ‘‘! finally thought,‘Why am | working in a bakery?’ and feft.”” She started a small sign painting business and then attended the Capilano College commercial art program because it was cheap and convenient. Her paintings are bright, bold, innovative canvases with tides like Popsicles from Hell, a large blue popsicle surrounded by flames. She said she intends to move to San Francisce «oon because she likes the city and thinks it has a more active arts community than Vancouver. “1 don’t know what to expect,” Wilson said. “If [ can make money I'll probably stay there, although Vancouver is home,’’ she said.
