NV band seeks members THE NEWLY-FORMED North Vancouver Alumni Band is looking for bassoon, oboe and French horn players to round out this new local group's orchestral offerings. Made up mostly from former members of the North Vancouver Youth Band, the new group has so far received rave reviews from listeners, said Kevin Hamilton, a trombone player who ‘‘worked hard’’ to join the local youth band back in 1972. “We came back with one goal — music,’’ Hamilton said of the recent reunion of North Vancouver Youth Band members who played at a Centennial Theatre show. “These people put their instru- ments down years ago and didn’t pick them up until we started rehearsals for the Centennial Theatre concert,’’ he added. Canada Day celebrations July ! on Bowen Island will feature this alumni band, and the Vancowver Sea Festival will feature the Freddy Fud Puckers, a spin-off band that dresses up in ‘“‘funny costumes’’ and plays various local festivals. “We're having a lot of fun,’’ said Hamilton, who noted that players do not have to be former members of the youth band to per- form with the alumni band. Rehearsals are scheduled for once a week. Any interested musi- cians should call Ron Smith at 929-3637 or George McKenzie at 925-2443 for more details. Phene books delivered B.C. TEL’S new Metro Vancouver White Pages telephone directory, now being delivered throughout the Lower Mainland, is both big- ger and smaller than the 1986 edi- tion. Listings in the directory have in- creased by more than 17,500, for a total of 618,335, but the number of pages has been reduced to 1,480 from 1,488 and each copy is 35 grams lighter than the 1986 edi- tion. This was accomplished by using space more effectively, rather than reducing print size. A total of 1,098,000 copies will be distributed by the end of June. The major change in the direc- tory is the replacement of the General Tariffs with the Terms of Service. The terms, written in simpler language to be more easily understood, set out the rules and . pars cicy regulations governing both the NEWS photo Stuart Davis | Company and its customers regar- ding the provision of telephone service.
