STRICTLY FOR MEN

So you want to throw a party...

Parties, eh? ,

Which do you like best,
giving or going to? Be very
careful how you answer that
one — it's loaded with all
kinds of secret information
about you!

Me, I like to give “lull”
parties. No, not the kind you
bring your peejays and dolly
to, though they're nice,
mind, but “lull” as in after
the event.

When your party is in
January, you know your
guests will have passed
through the steambath that
is Christmas Day, and will be
in a warmly quiescent state,
grateful for any of your
Ministration providing they
have no aroma of turkey
about them.

The New Year’s Day
frenzy has passed, but the
promise of another chance is
stil green and credible,
people can still persuade
themselves to the belief that

Things Will Change.
Another condition of my

favorite party is that it
embraces the hours in the
middle of the day. The
pattern was established years
ago when evening baby sitter
talent was scarce and choosy
— a daylight gathering
obviated the need for such
service. As well, there are
few road-blocks set up
during the lunch hour (look
for that to change if we start
a wave!) and food on such
occasions can be won-
derfully various but seems to
set up less tension im the
cook than serious dinner-
type growlies.

Me, I hike stuff that can be
assembled, or, better still
completely cooked, the day
before. Soup is always a
must; a mug of nich hammy

pea soup clutched in the
hand, or a lentil and onion,
establishes its own com-
fortable level. Crackers by
all means, or slabs of good

Warm cheer
for a cold
evening

When winter weather
chills us what can equal the
delight of a cozy evening
around a fire sipping hot
mulied wine to warm us after
a hard day on the slopes or at
the office.

Here is a North Shore
Newsroom favorite recipe
for hot mulled wine.

HOT MULLED WINE
% cup sugar
‘4 cup water
{ dozen whole cloves
2 sticks cinnamon
1 crushed nutmeg
(about a tspn. if it’s
preground)
Peel of one lemon
Peel of 'A orange

Boul the above ingredients
together for five minutes to
make a syrup. Strain

Add one cup hot lemon
juice.
boil and add one bottle of
red wine. An inexpensive
imported dry wine works
well

Serve hot Cheers!
