56 - Wednesday, December 11, 1985 - North Shore News Entertainment Choir reaches to Christmases past THE VANCOUVER Chamber Choir reaches back to Christmases past to pres- ent A Baroque Christmas on Friday, December 13 at the Orpheum, The Vancouver Chamber Choir’s traditional Baroque Christmas concert features the Canadian premieres of two choral/orchestral works: Monteverdi’s Christmas Vespers and Pergolesi's rare- ly heard Missa Romana for two choirs and orchestras. Also on this program will be a special work by the CBC Vancouver Orchestra, Manfredini’s Christmas Concerto. A Baroque Christmas has become a Vancouver tradi- tion. In 1980 the Vancouver Chamber Choir with guest conductor John Eliot Gar- diner started the tradition at Ryerson Church. In the intervening years, A Baroque Christmas has changed location from Ryer- son Church to the Orpheum Theatre. It continues to of- fer a rich musical feast of unusual repertoire to the music-lover in search of an alternative to Handel’s Mes- siah. A Baroque Christmas will be the third concert of the Vancouver Chamber Choir’s 1985-86 season. Joined by the Vancouver Chorale, the CBC Vancouver Orchestra, and under the direction of Conductor Jon Washburn, this concert promises to add a special magic to the Christmas season.
