A “PRASTIC error’? has
caused Flash and Bang Elec-
tric Ltd. to withdraw its bid
for the installation of traffic
signals and street and park
jighting in North Vancouver

City.

North Vancouver City
Council approved the tender
withdrawal and accepted the
tender from Ricketts-Sewell
Electric Ltd., the second
lowest bidder for the pro-
jects, Monday.

drastic error in their tender
price in both contracts,’
says Gary Palmer,
superintendant of Engineer
design. *‘They couldn't per-
form the work for the price
they estimated, so they re-

purchased the seats they
would have to repair them to
meet fire safety standards.

“‘Anyone contacting us,
we advise them of the fire
hazard,"’ Naysmith says.

The Recreation Commis-
sion's original intention was
to repair the seats, Naysmith
explains, but the cheapest
price to
chairs would cost $70 a
chair, verses getting new
chairs which would cost $130
a chair.

“When you get to that
peint,’’ Naysmith says,
“you're also looking at re-
painting and fixing the hinge
mechanisms. The prices for
the new seats (tendered by
Hussey Scating Company)
were so good.”’

Centennial Theatre’s
director Herb Walker says,
“The seats have been there
since the building was built,
about 18 or 19 years. The
average life of seats is about
12 years. We've been wan-
ting to get new seats for
awhile.”
