B2 - Sunday, February 12, 1984 - North Shore News HOCKEY ACTION SIGHT AND SOUND Blackhawks widened their hold on first place with a pair of wins in the N.S. Industrial Hockey League, last week. Saturday, the Blackhawks shpped past Westlynn Super- valu 8-6, then breezed past Wrigley’s Canadians 8-2, Wednesday. In between, North Shore News Redwings ran their winning streak to three with a 8-5 win over N.S. Hobby Brewins. The News moved past Supervalu, who hold a game in hand for the race for third place with their win. The News, were led once again by Phil Keefe, whose two goats and three assists moved him within two points of Sight and Sound’s Randy Telford for the lead in the league scoring race. Telford’s 23 points leaves him ahead with only five games remaining. Also sconng for the News, were Randy Mormis with a hat trick, Stuart Davis counting a pair, while Barry Mah round- ed out the count. John Kachmar and Mike Dyn- neson led the Brewins each tallying twice, with a lone marker by Bill Hayman. Up against Wrigleys, the Black Hawks picked up a Ringette action NORTH SHORE WINTER CLUB Tween A’s played their strongest game of the season, against league leading Poco, battling to a 5-5 tie last week. Stephanie Maki did a fine job of net-minding and goals were scored by Tracy Min- nions (2), Shari Bryson, Kim McLean, and Yvonne Haerrer. in Petite A action, NSWC played a very strong game against North West Van, coming up with a 9-3 victory, with excellent goal-tending by Nicole Behrenz. Goals were scored by Vetina Schiralli (5), Danielle Getzie (2), and one each by Jody Rogers and Alana Gray. NSWC Petite B Jaguars were defeated by Aldergrove 5-2, with goals scored by Dana Alderson and Shona Mauch. Jr. Belle As kept up their winning streak with a 6-4 win > with against PoCo. In an exciting game, NSWC Senior ladies came up with a 5-3 win against NSWC Tween Bs. The younger girls played a super game, but the ladies managed to outmuscle them. NSWC TWEEN B Diggers (McCon- nell Air Conditioning) moved into a first place tie in their League standings with a 6-2 win over Aldergrove in North West Van Ringette action. The Red Stick pair of Carolyn Cerny and Lynn Dirom played a big part in the win over Aldergrove three assists and fine defensive play. The Tween A (Shoppers Drug Mart) team played one of their best of the year, beating the Winter Club 7-4. The girls came from behind to even the score at half time, and from then on dominated the play. The day started with the fourth division team winning by default, and continued with the third division team, using many recycled war- nors, defeating Ex-Brittania. The second division team playing with dogged tenacity also posted a victory over Ex- Brittania. The Capilano First Divi- sion Caps also playing Ex- Brittania suffered a setback, THREE BIG WINS Good start for Cap rugby losing two of their strong players to injuries early in the final game. There were show- ings of organized strong play but not enough to win. Capilanos proposed new club house construction will begin Feb. 15 at Klahanie Park (north end of Lions Gate Bridge). The Caps practise on Tuesdays 6:30 pm at Klahanie Park and on Thursdays 6:00 pm at North park (19th & Jones).
