A7 - Wednesday, November 30, 1983 - North Shore News i mailbox Non-striking teachers lauded The Editor: As a parent I would like to thank those teachers who came to school and were will- ing to teach during the recent strike. You embody the legacy of responsible professionalism in education, that previous generations have enjoyed. After making what must have been a difficult deci- sion, thank you for having the courage of conviction to walk through the picket line of your peers. There are a great many non-anarchists in the community who admire and appreciate what you did. A political walk out for a day could have indicated, reasonably, education’s view- point. But now I feel some- what uneasy about sending my children into the care of people who particpated in an illegal and crippling strike merely to back up the demands of a radical left wing movement. I somehow expected better of the educators and stan- dard setters of tomorrow’s society. This being his avowed aim, dare one raise a small voice to question: Why not start by putting your money where your mouth is, Bill? When are you going to privatize liquor sales in B.C.? J. The majority of the people residing in B.C. belong to no union, no federation, no association, and no coalition. So why are so many of us allowing the Solidarity Coali- tion to turn this province into a dictatorship? Where did Solidarity gain the expertise to decide the amount of care required by chronically ill patients? Who gave them the right to tell me I can’t send a child to school? Where did this coalition get the authority to waste the hard-earned tuition fees of college students? Why does Solidarity feel they have the right to prevent me from do- ing anything at all that is legal according to the laws of this province and country? On the other hand, why is our Premier granting amnes- ty to illegal strikers? Will he also give amnesty to me if | break the law? Why is he kowtowing to Solidarity to the extent of having union members sit on this and that committee to decide our fate about a lot of things? Why can’t YOU be a member of these committees why can’t I? The majority of the voters elected Mr. Bennett as Premier but he is allowing his position to be eroded.
