Uneven softball debut

The senior girls softball
season is off to a shaky start
with 34 point = spreads
marking the opening games
last week.

While most of the games
were between senior teams,
an interlocking game
schedule with the junior girls
provided a few new faces at
the plate.

Winning pitcher Paula
George, a talented holdover
from last year, struck out
nine and with Arlene Sturk
combined for a three-hitter
in Carson Graham's 30-1
trouncing of West Van-
couver. Kelly Payne also
managed a two-run homer
for the Eagles, Tuesday.

High scomng team of the
day honors went to
Sutherland, who dumped
Hillside 37.3, Mana Chiesa
puched Argyle to a 9T win
Over Windsor, while

Handsworth's Vicki Brown
struck out seven for a one-
hitter 7-1 defeat of the
Argyle junior squad.

The same four teams won
again in Thursday action,
perhaps setting a trend for
the coming season. Nancy
Chilton had nine strike-outs,
leading Handsworth to a
convincing 21-2 victory over
West Vancouver, while

league
underway

All ten teams wil] be in
action this coming weekend
as the North Shore Mens
Softball League kicks off
their new season with an
exhibition tournament at
Brooksbank and Norgate
Parks with $500 in prizes.

League play begins May 2
and continues until July 26
with games at Brooksbank
and Norgate Park each team
playing 27 games.

Now in their sixth season
the organization will gains be
holding an_ invitational
tournament on the July 1
weekend at Lynn Valley
Park.

League officials say their
players are willing to assist
with junior fast ball leagues.
