IT’S DRY, it’s dusty and it's
hot. School is closing and
almost in answer the days
grow longer, melting slowly
into cabm pools of darkness.
Yet through the gloaming,
disturbing the games of grass
moths, come faint shouts on
whispers of wind — “Play
Bali!”

The Little League baseball
season is here, as traditional
and welcome as popsicles in
summer. For much of its
span, the players drift
through a regular season of
weekly games and _  oc-
casional training.

But now the final tour-
nament is approaching, and
the possibility exists that a
youngster you know could
make it to the nationals, or
even the “World Series” of
Little League if he and his
team are good enough.

The first step is the tryouts
for each league's
representative team of 14
children aged 11 and 12,
which should begin July 1.
With leagues spanning this
side of Burrard Inlet from
Deep Cove to Squamish,

there are many opportunities

for the enthusiastic player.
Nine teams wil] be par-

ticipating in the District Five

tournament: Capilano,
Squamish, J.C. Rotary,
Highlands, Forest Hills,

Lynn Valley, Mt. Seymour,
West Vancouver and
Park.

They will be continuing a
35-year old tradition of Little
League tournaments as well
as providing a chance for fun
and success.

The tournament begins
Saturday, July 10 = in
Squamish with a game at 12
noon between Howe Sound
and Cypress Park. The
opening ceremonies follow
at 2:30, and the day is
rounded out with games
featuring Forest Hills versus
West Vancouver and
Capilano versus J.C. Rotary
at 3:30 and 6 p.m.

The Sunday sees Mt.
Seymour take on the
Highlands at 1 p.m. and
Lynn Valley play the winner
of the first game at 3:30.
