VSO prepares for radiothon

Al this and more is
available in the’ second

annual QM/FM Symphony
Radiothon. Sponsored by
Shell Canada Limited and
Kelly’s Stereo, the marathon
event will be broadcast
continuously from noon
Friday, November 14 until

midnight Sunday, November
16 on QM/FM 103.5.

Close to 650 premiums,
ranging in value from $5 to
$2,500, are listed in the
Radiothon catalogue which
will be available November 3
and may be obtained at all
Royal Bank branches
throughout the Lower
Mainland or by calling the
VSO at 689-1411.

In most cases, prices for
the various premiums are
set. However, a few of the
items, such as the chance to
conduct the VSO, and a
diamond necklace, will be
auctioned on the air. All
proceeds from the event will
go to the Vancouver
Symphony Orchestra.

Donors may order

premiums by phoning 685-
3733 during the Radiothon
or by visiting the broadcast
location in the upper mal! of
the Pacific Centre.
Premiums include a
Baroque Banquet at The
William Tell restaurant with
music by VSO wind prip-
cipals Camille Churchfield,
Christopher Millard and
Roger Cole plus harp-
sichordist Linda-Lee
Thomas; a golf game with
two of the Vancouver
Canucks; a special hospital
visit by Sesame Street's very
own Big Bird and Oscar the
Grouch; a dozen filets
mignon; more than 300 gift
certificates for meals at
Vancouver restaurants, and
an onginal cartoon drawn

$128,000 from the project -
well over twice the target.
Only two orchestras, the
New York Philharmonic and
the Chicago Symphony,
exceeded the VSO’s total in
their first radiothons. The
goal for the 1980 Radiothon
is $140,000.
