By NOEL WRIGHT West Vancouver council emphasizes that its 1976 agreement to provide ser- vices for the expanded Park Royal South shopping centre expansion—thus permitting Park Royal and the Squamish Indian Band. to proceed despite the absence of a public overall plan for the _ development of the area—in no way affects council’s rights to deal with future problems. This is the position that -Mayor Peter Jones has recommended West Van roan council to adopt foliowing a. January 31 meeting with representatives of nine Citi- zen groups, whichexpressed continued alarm over the traffic chaos threatened by the enlarged centre. Apart from ‘‘reserving council’s rights,’’ however, the Mayor’s memorandum paints a soothing picture of West Vancouver’s | traffic problems in the Park Royal area over the next two to three years—based largely upon a ‘‘Summary of Pred- -ictions’’ by Paul Roer, who was appointed last’ year as traffic consultant to the municipality. According to Roer, said Mayor Jones the completion of the expanded Park Royal South centre by August 1978 will: *Increase traffic by 10 per cent on Taylor Way and ‘some other routes. *Decrease westbound traffic slightly over the existing Marine Drive Cap- - ilano River bridge. *Put 700 or so cars an hour over the new bridge being built over the Capilano River. ~ Reasons for a decrease in westbound traffic over the Two North Van drivers scored among the top 10 overall in last weekend's Perce Neige National Car Rally at La Chute, Quebec.
