West Van actor furthers career
through local film production

WHAT'S A local actor to do when
he can’t find enough work in North
America’s third largest production
centre?

If your name is Mar Andersons,
you'll align yourself with three
like-minded film-makers, collabo-
rate on a script, call in a few favors
to gather a volunteer cast and crew,
and donations. of equipment and
post-production facilities, throw in
a band looking for exposure and
produce a multi-million-dollar film
on an extremely limited budget.
Then cast yourself in a supporting
role. ; oo

It may not be the direct route to
fame and fortune but one that the
20-year-old West Vanner is willing
to take.

It’s not that he lacks experience
— he’s appeared in X-Files.
Madison and Little Women and
behind the lens for. Sliders, Neon
Rider and Stakeour 11 — he’s just
concerned about his future.

Of the 32 features, 15 TV series
and 38 TV movies and pilots shot in
B.C. last year, the vast majority
were American-made.

“If they (American productions)
ever leave, we have got to create an
indigenous community,” explains
Andersons, during filming of Three
Rings et the Yaletown hangout Bar

Three Rings, which was shot
principally in West Vancouver, is
the story of Robert. a successful
young man whose life takes a turn
for the worse when he slips and
falls at home, the phone just out of
reach. He cannot be rescued by the
friends who leave their messages
oblivious to Robert's fate.

Andersons and his collaborators
plan to enter Three Rings in the
Vancouver Film Festival.
