aics burn unit JOY TELLS ALL IT CERTAINLY was a grand night for the firefight- ‘ers and the Vancouver Firefighter’s Band Saturday night at the Hotel Vancouver as they celebrated their 75th annual Firefighters Ball. Thanks to the dedicated hard work by the ball committee, headed by Bob Hollier, the evening was a complete sell-out with more than 90C dressy guests! Rick Honey _ was emcee and the special guests that evening were the Minister of Employment and Investment the Honorable Glenn Clark; Mayor Philip Owen and his wife, Brita; AND Honorary Fire Chief Murray Pezim, just back from his business headquarters in Scottsdale and now home to stay. He looked healthier, too! Probably because he’s just quit smoking after 51 years and undoubtedly at the urging of his new blonde lady, Michelle Rockhill. , Vancouver’s first Honorary Fire . Chief, Simma Holt wasn’t at the : ball. She was out of town on busi- ness. But the distaff side was well represented by Vancouver’s first female firefighter, Cara Goose. (And no, they don’t call her “moth- r”.) Pd known that Vancouver had a female firefighter for several months but decided to go along with the VFD in keeping a low pro- file on her. ... Safeway’s Don Bell was ulso on hand as the donor of the adorable stuffed dalmatian puppies that dec- orated the tables. They were auc- tioned off to the highest bidder at each table. The last of the red-hot lovers. a tithe formerly held by the now-married Herb Capozzi, Bazil Pantages was there looking as tanned as ever. Herb and his red taffeta-ed Alixandra were waltzing around the floor. West Van's Harvey Gould and his grand-daughter. Rachel, made u handsome couple. Rachel was real- ly enjoving the party, She was cele- brating her 20th birthday ... WED union head Dave Mitchell and his wife Mary were proudly showing off photos of their litle son, Sam, who's now 14 months old and wis born just prior to last year’s dinner dance. Also, upstairs in their hotel room before they came down to the gala do, Bob and Glenna Hollier were displaying their little three- month old baby son, Nathan, their first heir to the family fortune who was all decked out in a teeny tuxe- do. No fund-raising total as yet but it certainly was a very successful event, especially for the Burn Unit... Jovial Harvey Young had his car towed the other night and he was delighted about it. How’s that for a twist! Seems that Harvey lent his absolutely mint condition 1926 Model T roadster pick-up to the Rotary Club of Vancouver for use at their annual Vancouver President's Balf at Mark Andrew’s Hyatt Regency for oul- going president, Harvie Malcolm. With the kind of drivers we have on our streets, Harvey was a litile ner- vous about driving the car. So he asked Drake’s Towing for the price for their special towing service. That’s when Tom English of Drake’s Towing astonished Harvey and waived the charges in recogni- tion of Rotary’s community activi- ties and towed the truck in its “best black tires” on the back of Drake’s special rig to the event. Kudos to Drake Towing for their community spirit! P.S. If you want a collector’s item, the 1926 Model T with hand- carved wooden wheels is for sale and the number is 327-104... ence shopping at its finest.
