House gutted

A LIT cigaretie is believed to have been (he cause of a
fire on Sunday, Jan, 23, that gutted the living room and
basement area of a house at 389 East Osborne Rd.

The owner of the house discovered the fire at appresi-
mately 3 p.m., after he opened a door ofa burning room.

The resulting heat caused some of his clothing to melt,
said a North Vancouver District Fire Services (NVDFS)
spokesman, The owner subsequently escaped through a
window. He was not seriously injured in the incident,
said the spokesman.

The NVDFS spokesman estimated the damage to the
house at between $10,000 and $15,000.

He said there was no smoke detector in the building.

Boat burned

THE NORTH Vancouver District fire boat was called
out on its first official day in service on Jan. 17 to help
extinguish a boat fire at Allied Shipbuitders Ltd., 1870
Harbor; Rd. The fire started at approximately 8 p.m.
after the boat’s galley stove overheated and ignited near-
by combustibles, said a North Vancouver District Fire
‘Services spokesman.

The Sun Fjord was un 80-foot (24 m) dragger. No one
was aboard the vessel at the time of the fire.

t HE WEST Vancouver District 45 School Board mainte-
mance building and another school board building were
‘the targets of a break and enter on Monday, Jan. 24.
* West Vancouver Police were alerted to the break-in
-by.a building alarm at approximately! a.m.

-A ‘stolen 1988 GMC pickup, was recovered at the scene
in ‘the 1700-block of Inglewood: Avenue, according: to a
West Vancouver Palice spokesman.

The truck had been’stolen in, North Vancouver.

Man jailed

A 37-YEAR-OLD Vancouver man was recently jailed
- four months in connection with a charge of possessing a
‘stolen fax machine and computer equipment.

Danny Him Ming Luk, pleaded guilty to the charge,
which was laid against him in connection with a July 29,
1993, incident in. West Vancouver.

The: property belonged to the Magic Owl Theatre
Society.

; Judge Reginald Grandison sentenced Luk in West
- Vancouver provincial court on Dec. 21, 1993.

Probation breached

A 34-YEAR-OLD North Vancouver man was recently
jailed three days in connection with a charge of breach-
ing prebation by failing to pay $500 restitution.

Trevor Warrington pleaded guitty to the charge.

The restitution was supposed to be paid by Oct. 8,
1993.

- Judge Carl Walker sentenced Warrington in North
Vancouver provineial court on Noy. 24, 1993.

Girl struck

A 32-YEAR-OLD Vancouyer.man faces a charge of hit
and run after a [4-year-ofd Bowen Island girl was struck

‘by a vehicle on Friday, Jan. 21, at 14th Street and
Marine Drive in West Vancouver.

The teenager’s leg was broken as a result of the inci-
dent.

The suspect fled the scene but was later arrested
based on witness information, said a West Vancouver
Police spokesman.

The name of the suspect had not been released to
press time Tuesday.
