House gutted A LIT cigaretie is believed to have been (he cause of a fire on Sunday, Jan, 23, that gutted the living room and basement area of a house at 389 East Osborne Rd. The owner of the house discovered the fire at appresi- mately 3 p.m., after he opened a door ofa burning room. The resulting heat caused some of his clothing to melt, said a North Vancouver District Fire Services (NVDFS) spokesman, The owner subsequently escaped through a window. He was not seriously injured in the incident, said the spokesman. The NVDFS spokesman estimated the damage to the house at between $10,000 and $15,000. He said there was no smoke detector in the building.
