Firefighters ‘OCKTAILS & CAVIAR MICHAEL LAMBERT’S Hotel Vancouver was the setting for 732 elegantly attired guests to enjoy the 74th Firefighters Ball and, at the same time, raise thousands upon thousands of dollars for Vancouver Geiicral Hospi- tal’s Burn Unit. The affair was sponsored by the Vancouver Firefighters Band, the 50-member orchestra that is the official band of the City of Van- couver. And from the moment they began their tuneful music until the home waltz was played, the even- ing was a brilliant success! Vancouver Fire Department Chief Glenn Maddess, along with his pretty wife Yvonne, presided over the head table for the first time. Honorary Fire Chief Murray Pezim was just back from his gold-mining talks with the presi- dent of Panama, and escorted his favorite lady, Tammy Patrick, who had just flown in from their abode in Scottsdale. Tammy, blonde hair in a fash- ionable French roll, was ina clinging peach-colored silk gown. Feisty columnist and author Simma Holt, the first female honorary fire chief, was also at the head table in turquoise taffeta, and was accompanied by her sister, graphologist Hannah Smith, who was in soft purple. Simma was named honorary fire chief by VFD Chief Hugh Bird back in 1951! Vancouver Firefighters’ Union boss Dave Mitchell made an ex- esllent speech. He and his red-headed wife ‘Mary were still on Cloud Nine after becoming parents a short while ago. Burnaby MLA Joy McPhail, giameorous in a bare-all, bright red party dress, chatted with Coun. And Dan suffered a broken wrist and double dislocation. It's commonly known as the chauf- feur’s fracture. Congratulations to Dan and the entire VFD Band, and to Bob Hollier and his organizing team, who made this such an enjoyable event, Can’t wait for their Diamond Jubilee 75th Firefighters Ball on Saturday, April 30, 1994, Tickets, anyone? eo0 After that dreary, dreadful downpour on Saturday, the sun finally came out Sunday morning, just in time for the wedding of renewned artist and Canada’s famous heart-transplant recipient, Daniel Izzard and West Van travel agent Pilar Donaldson.
