NOTHER Chinese

food restaurant might

not inspire more than
a half-hearted whoopee
from most diners, but
another good Chinese food
restaurant is cause for hearty
celebration.

The Golden Pearl falls into the
latter category, something I, as a
cold-soup-hearted food critic, had
not expected.

| headed the Table Hopping bus
down to the Golden Pearl on a
recent Friday night loaded with
family members and expectations
of slap-dash wok-fried Chinese-
Canadian cookery coated in
grease and conceived in indif-
ference.

But the Pear! was a pleasant
surprise.

it sits adjacent to the Park &
Tilford cinemas and a short walk
from the often forgotten but still
grand Park & Tilford Gardens.

For openers, the restaurant was
busy — an encouraging sign.

Still more encouraging was the
demeanor of the Golden Pearl’s
staff. They were all outfitted in
white shirts and black bow ties
and were efficiently seating and
servicing the early crowds filling
the restaurant.

The restaurant was clean and
decorated in a subdued Chinese
elegance.

its menu was extensive, and it
provided a variety punctuated
with points of interest throughout,
