Pacific Truck and Trailer Ltd. (PTTL) will begin delivery of 100 fogging trucks and their trailers to the Borneo-based Rimbunan Hijau Sdn. Bhd. (RHSB) in December. Company sales vice-president Wayne Magee said Thursday the deal is worth approximately $23 million. “f’s outstanding,’’ Magee said, “and is the result of two to three years of effort. It will have a lot of long-term berefits."” EXPORTS Magee, who established a PTTL. parts department in Malaysia 2% years ago, said his company will increase its offshore exports as a result of the sale. The company opened a regional office to develop its growing Southeast Asia market three years ago with federal assistance from the Program for Export Murket Development. Pacific Truck, he said, currently sells about 65 per cent Of its pro- duction outside of Canada, and apart from the recent sale to Borneo has had success with sales in Indonesia, the Philippines, New Zealand and Papua-New Guinea. BOOST SALES Magee estimated the $23 million sale will help boost offshore sales to 70 per cent of the company's production. RHSB is a massive Southeast Asian company with over 800 pieces of jungle logging equip- ment, including 400 logging trucks. The 100 PTTL trucks — 56 P510 and 44 PS12 right-hand drive models — will be specially design- ed to withstand hot, humid jungle conditions. PTTL celebrated its 40th an- niversary in July. The company currently employs about 100 peo- ple and has been on the North Shore for the last 28 years. Magee said between 10 and 20 people will be hired by PTTL to help the company fulfil the $23 million contract, which he expects PTTL to complete within six to eight months. MALAYSIA The trucks wil. be shipped to Malaysia in containers and reassembled there. PTTL's Malaysian distributor was able to bring the RHSB buyer to the North Vancouver company's 40th anniversary celebrations under the provincial government's Incoming Buyers Program. Dato Abu bin Haji Omar, Malaysia's foreign minister, visited PTTL during the recent Com- monwealth Conference. Magee said support from the B.C. gevernment through the buyers program helped clinch the
