Seniors start Spring scrum NORTH SHORE Senior high school boys started a new spring sport this year: rugby. Formerly held in the fall, the seasonal switch is being tried in the coaches’ belief that spring will attract better playing conditions and more players. Caps kick off agaist Cosmos Vancouver Whitecaps arch rivals are in town Sunday to enter into their 10th year of battle with the home team. New York Cosmos, the team everyone loves to hate will take the field at Empire Stadium at 2 p.m. complete with their regular list of characters including Georgio Chinaglia, Hubert Birkenmeir, Steve Moyers and the rest of the Warner Bros. cast. While only an exhibition game, the teams will be competing for the Spring Cup, a trophy put up for grabs by the Whitecaps last season. And when these two old rivals get together, there is mever any ‘only an exhibition’ mentality shown. A few of the new Whitecaps will be making their debut for the home crowds. Frans Thijssen, the brilliant Dutch midfielder, recently with Ispswich, arrived in town on Monday and will be in the lineup Sunday along with Fran O’Brien, the _ Irish inter- national midfielder who was a first team all-star with Montreal!
