Irritation leads to anger, and anger usually sets off rash — and stupid — ac- tions. Courtesy on the road is every bit as important as observing traffic signs. No motorist should pur posely drive the wrong way on a one-way street. And no motorist should purposely make a_ turn without flicking on direc- tional signals in advance. The horn was invented as a warning device, to alert other drivers to your IN_DAYS OF OLD Road courtesy mi presence. Don't abuse it. If traffic isn’t moving, honking your horn won't help the situation. There is no evidence that any stalled car ever started because someone honked a horn. If a car in front of you is stalled, offer to push it on the shoulder and then notify police. If you see a disabled car on the side of the road, slow down and ask if help is needed. Put yourself in the other guy's shoes; you'd want someone to help you if you were out of gas or had a flat tire. Courtesy — try it. Unnecessary honking also leads to irritation, then to anger — and chances are the other driver is bigger than you Don't weave from lane to lane trying to beat traffic. You waste gas — and probably time. And what have you gained? Perhaps 15 seconds at the most. But at a cost of plenty of irritation in the cars behind you~ = and probably some _ near- accidents. In cities, anticipate stop lights. Slowing to a stop saves gas and your brakes. Racing to the corner just as the light changes means you'll probably crash the light. Pedestrians have enough trouble’ without having to jump out of the way of cars that can’t stop in ght be catching time. On the subject of pedestrians, look out for them. A child may run from between parked cars. A senior citizen may not be able to clear the intersection before ‘the light changes. A mother pushing a _ baby When bikes were bold..... The Cycle Canada °82 shows will feature an antique motorcycle display that will give visitors the opportunity to scrutinize, criticize and praise the features of motorcycles that been out of production for as}long as 70 years.
