Litchfield said training ini- tiatives in North Vancouver are used as a model for other com- munities across Canada and the US. “North Vancouver has a reputation in Canada as being one of those communities where the industry and com- munity work cogether for transportation — emergencies with chemicals,” he said. Grant said the fire department works closely with the emer- gency-response tcams employ- ed by CXY Chemicals, Dow Chemicals and Sterling Pulp Chemicals in North Vancouver. “In the event we do have any (emergency) calls that include chemicals, whether they’re chemicals from those plants or they’re in transport, we know that we have the expertise here in the area. We can call on them and we can work with them,” said Grant. Litchfield has 30 years’ expe- rience in emergency response. She rents out a house she bought in 1992 which has tripled in value. “T have an investment program for my child’s educa- tion — and I don’t even hive a child.” she added.
