CHOOSING a best of anything is
fraught with peril, especially when it
concerns golfers.

_ However, with 8] golf holes on the North
Shore someone has to begin the debate.

For the record, my pick as best hole is the
fourth at Seymour Golf & Country Club.

An elegant 369-yard uphill dogleg right, the
hole demands exacting, but not hugely long,
shots. Shorter hitters can shorten the hole a little
by trying to drive down the right side, which is
lined with trees and a ditch.

Bigger hitters can still pound it, but unless the
bail is well-piaced, the extra yards aren’t worth
much because of the dogleg.

gives golfers something to think about. As
Seymouz’s fourth only has one trap, the hole is
a welcome relief from the over-trapped designs
popular with many modern course architects.

A well-placed approach is essential to the
sloping green. Anything above the hole puts the
golfer in three-putt trouble.

So there you have it. A deceptively difficult
hole that remains fair and rewards accurate shot-
making.
