Whistler, a short 90-minute
drive north of Vancouver, is an
all-around season destination.

On April 1, Whistler Resort
welcomed its one millionth skier
visit for 1989.

And from May right through
until August, both Whistler and
Blackcomb offer a host of outdoor
events including summer skiing at
Blackcomb.

Last year for the first time,
skiers took to the slopes of
Blackcomb’s Horstman Glacier.
The mountain invested $14 million

on seven major projects, including -

the expansion of ski terrain by 162
hectares (400 acres). That doubled
the existing area of alpine terrain
to make Biackcomb the largest
alpine ski area in North America.

Blackcomb boasts 95 breath-
taking runs and the greatest ver-
tical rise, 5,280 feet in North
America. On Whistler, a new
high-speed express gondola can
now whisk skiers up the mountain
in significantly less time, and new
development has made way for
more visitors.

If you happen to be an avid
skier, summer ski camps and
weekend clinics for all ages are to
be taken advantage of.

There are also outdoor youth
camps which offer overnight back
country expeditions, camping,
horseback riding, biking, windsur-
fing, swimming and rock climbing.

Whistler also offers the finest in
