needs.

Housing Corporation’s
(CMHC) program, Home
Adaptations for Seniors’
Independence (HASI), can
make a difference.

The HASI program pro-
vides financial assistance to
homeowners and landlords for
up to §2,500 for home adapta-
tions that assist. low-income
seniors to live in their own
homes independently. To be
cligible for funding, the occu-
pant of the home must be 65
years or older, have a low
income and have difficulty
with activities associated with
daily living. ~

“Many older people want
to remain in their homes for as
long as they are able,” states
Mike. Young, CMHC’s
Vancouver branch manager.

Some of the adaptations
covered under HASI include
installing hand rails in hallways
and stairways, easy-to-reach
-work and storage areas in the
kitchen and bathtub grab bars
-and seats.
