Attempted murder

A 4I-VYEAR-OLD North Vancou-
ver man has been charged with
two counts of attempted murder
in connection with a brutal attack
on his children Thursday morn-
ing.

Michel Andre Caouete appeared in
North Vancouver provincial court Friday
to face charges of utering threats, which
have also been {aid against him,

He is:scheduled (o-appear in court on
all charges Aug. 9, after undergoing a psy-
chiatric assessment. |

Caouette, wearing a white prisoner's
uniform and holding his head in his hands,

Prior to Friday’s court hearing, RCMP
Sat. Ken Schinkel said Caguette’s children
~~ Joshua, 4, and Danielle, £1 — were
taken to Lions Gate Hospital Thursday
morning from the 130 West Sth St. apart-

‘ment Caouette was staying in: Both were
‘suffering from missive head injuries and
‘had surgery’ at Lions’ Gate Hospital.

Danielle was then transferred to B.C.'s
Children's Hospital, The tvo. remained
hooked up to life-support systems as of
Friday.

“AL the time of the attack on the chil-
dren, the l-year-old, balding. Caoucte
was under a restraining order not to see his
wife or children taless he had the permis-
sion of a family court counsellor, North
Vancouver RCMP Const. Catherine
