repair shop, additional reinspections
will be required until the vehicle -

or fully refurbished and proven to

O How strict are the AirCare
emission iimits?

The maximum allowable cmis-
sion limits shown on your vehicle
inspection report are based upon the -
vehicle’s model year, weight and
engine size, plus ‘significant
allowance for the age of the vehicle
and for normal variations in engine
performance.

A well-tuned wehicle with its’
original emissions components ‘in
place. and functioning should be
emitting less than one-fourth of the
maximum allowable limit.

O Can test readings vary when
no work has been done on the
engine? .

Normal variability in any vehicle
engine can cause test readings to
vary. In fact, the closer a vehicle
comes to exceeding the maximum’
allowable Hmit, the farther it is out
of tune, and the more variability will
occur in the engine.

Engine temperature also can
affect emission levels, The AirCare
limits have been set so that a well-
tuned engine, regardless of variabil-
ity, will meet the AirCare standard
easily.
