Families are drawn to the river. where young and old enjoy the hik- ing and everyone takes advantage of the ecology centre, a naturalist’s play- ground of information. There is also a suspension bridge, concession and several trails that dodge alongside the rearing canyon. Residents of Lynn Valley appreci- are the trees and creeks thar are abun- danc throughout the community. However, dwelling in Lynn Valley also means being accustomed to the rain. Rumors suggest the greatest rain- fall in B.C., statistics put it at about third. The neighborhoods of this com- munity are mostly families. With plenty of cul-de-sacs, crescents and winding streets that circle around small parks, it’s a perfect place for a growing family. The commercial neighborhood is only abour three blocks and is locat- ed at the intersection of Lynn Valley Road and Mountain Highway. It marks the geographic centre of the community as well as the marker- place. There are several older two- story retail buildings and a few com- mercial buildings, bur the main attraction is Lynn Valley Centre with | 61 stores. Substantial growth in this area has recently seen the development of a retail professional centre and an increase in apartments and town- houses. However, even with expansion of the area, Lynn Valley has maintained the cohesiveness of a strong commu- nity. ~ By Robert Galster Canyon crowns this valley community Kilmer Creek Park with its playing fields and waterpark is a favorite des- tination for Lynn Valley families. Fieness and dance classes, a preschool and youth drop in facilities are available at the Lynn Valley Recreation Centre on Mountain Highway. At the Karen Magnussen Recreation Centre on Lynn Valley Road, you can ice skate practically year-round in the arena, or cake an inexpensive tropical vacation at the wave pool. There are many hiking and watk- ing opportunities in this area, start- ing with Harbour-view Park and Lynmouth Park, where Lyan Creek enters the bay. We are told that Bridge-man Park, further up che Lyon, ts a great place to start a day of “spawning” (put on old shoes and walk, splash and even swim your way up the creek). The more conventional option is to follow the trail, which carries on above the Upper Levels Highway, up the Lynn through InterRiver Park.
