The amount is the district's
share (based on papulation) of
$76,188, a figure achieved by a
per capita levy of SQ cents,

The district has already
approved arts funding of $1 per

capita for 1994, bul because West
Vancouver Council has decided to
maintiin the 1993 evel of funding
there will be no increase in the
overall budge,

A condition of the tri-emunicipal
program is that each municipality
will contribute at the same rate,

The arts commission was
formed to develop and promote
the arts on the North Shore,

IL appoints a jury each year to
adjudicate funding applications
from arts and heritage societies,
relieving the three North Shore
councils from many individual
grant decisions.

However, the councils deter-
imine the criteria which the Arts
Assistance Grant Program will
impose on applicants.

Following some political
upheaval last year, 90% of the
total money available in 1994 had
to be awarded to arts groups based
on the North Shore.

But Coun. Janice Harris, the
district representative on the arts
commission, said she would like
to see the definition of a North
Shore group clarified further.

She said she had some sympa-
thy for the point of view. that the
Judith Marcuse Dance Society was
a regional company.
