Lorne Greenberg's brightly col- ored photo-works, though smaller in scale than Mees’ paintings. are not at all overpowered. Through the use of multiple ex- posure, the artist combines the two sources of imagery, strect scenes from India and shots of the Indian film industry's billboard advertisements, to create compell- ing works. Though the grand and dramatic gestures of the billboards against the nullifying meanness of the Scoatlife makes an almost obscene contrast, this is only one dimension of these provocative pieces, The superimposition of ane im- age on another is so expertly handled that each ends up deconstructing the other and the result sends us into a kind of suc tealistic limbo. Thus, while we are made more vividly aware of the dichotomies of Indian life, we are at the same time challenged by doubts about the very process by means of which we have became so aware, Ontario actor stages journalist’s tale THE NAME Martha Root isn't bound te ring bells, But Root, an American journal- ist, fought against sexual stervo- types and broke important barriers in her profession.
