Taylor, who noted a number of
areas warrant a skateboard ban,

“Hopefully we're satisfying the
needs of the public...and at the
same time not being overly
punitive to the skateboarders who
now legally have fewer places to
participate in their sport,’’ Taylor
said supporting the change.

Council also approved $4,000 to
pay for new ‘skateboarding pro-
hibited’ signs and an information
campaign to inform skateboarders
of the new prohibition.

Final approval is expected
March 23. The ban wil} be effec-
tive May 1}.

earlier’ meeting when the new
reduced rates were introduced.

But Ald. Allan Blair charged
during debate the city had been
overcharging the taxpayers in 1986
and should also pass on any cost
difference from last year to city
residents.

“The reduction has in part been
passed on to the’ taxpayers,’’ said
Ald.. Dana Taylor. ‘‘Hopefully we
won't have to increase (rates) as
much in the future.”’

The new rates reflect a recent
reduction in waste disposal costs to
the city.
