W Revie Dear Editor: Are the taxpayers of West Vancouver being shafted by Council's recent decision to contract out the garbage collection? Te December 2 issue of Fhe News reported irate Strata residents turning out en masse to a Council meeting in protest of the collection fee increase of more than 200% . In an earlier issue of The Vic oria must curb big spenders Dear Editor: Separation of West Vancouver's School Board is just another smokescreen to cover up for their in- competency. The govern- ment isn't responsible for their huge budget increase, neither for the ever decreasing pupil-teacher ratio, more staff, more frills, Typewriter pecker bares her soul Dear Editor: Letter writers unite, ime is now running out for those of us with that terrible compulsion to shove piece of written-_paper into little white squares with awful tasting sticky stuff, and dropping it into those famous jaws of funny shaped metal boxes marked Canada Post. The government is about to do something dreadful to all of us: they are going to more than double the cost of delivering our little golden messages. News it was “reported that Haul-Away would be charging the Municipality $43.86 per household an- nually to collect the garbage, and that the Municipality would save $230,484. The report neglected to mention that there would be an annual cost of living in- crease. Appoximately four years ago we agreed to a reduction garbage situation of the garbage crew from three men to two men per truck, which resulted in a saving of approximately $50,000 a year. In a presentation to Council just prior to contracting out, we showed how the Municipality could save in the neighorhood of $250,000 per annum, and also in- crease revenue. Has Management misrepresented the facts and figures of contracting out in order to dump a highly contreversial area from their responsiblity, a complete review of this serious situation should be called for by the taxpayers of West Vancouver.
