Getting your home ready for winter

Button up and batten down: winter's blowin’ this way. And we all know we're in for five months (well. four months and three weeks) of dreary. bleary drizzle.
With oceasional wind-driven rain.
Winter's as hard on your home as it is on your disposition. So make things easier all ‘round — especially when it comes time to pay those winter heating bills —
by making a littl: extra effort now.
Follow the checklist given below, to make sure your home is well buttoned up for winter. And keep this list handy for next year: winter's sure to ecsne around again.

® Clean the dead leaves and general debris out of the eavestroughs, drains and gutters. ® Check weather-stipping around doors and windows. Repair or replace where necessary.

© Turn off outside water connections. insulation and will absorb much of the dampness.

. : i - : @ Have your chimney and furnace cleaned: change

your furnace filter and check your fireplace

© Re-arrange your furniture to make best use of
warm areas — such as around the fireplace —

and to avoid drafts.

@ Add a bright spot of color to every room. Flowers,
cushions or a colorful wall hanging: they ali help
lo “spring up” a room.

® Empty garden hoses and bring them inside
where they won't freeze.

® Dig up all the dead plants and flowers in your
yard: plant daffodil or tulip bulbs in their place
and think how cheerful your yard will look
come spnng!

@ Install a bird feeder in the back yard... winter's
