2 - Sunday, March 9, 1997 - This month Fabricland, in western Canada, is celebrating their 20th Birthday! Fabricitand, the targest fabric retai! chain in Canada, is 100% Canadian owned and operated. Twenty years ago ivr. Me! Kotler, President of Fabricland heard the calling to “go west young man, go west" ! Mr. Kotler left Montreal in search of a business opportunity. Ke landed in Calgary, AB in 1976. With a background in the fabric industry, he determined a need for a large volume fabric store that could cffer a vast selection of fabrics, notions and more. He quickly established a partnership with Fabriciand in eastern Canada which had been operating for five years. Mr. Kotler opened his first Fabricland store in Catgary in 1977. Fabriciand was an immediate success! Before the end of the first year in business, four stores had opened in Alberta. The second year brought an additional four stores with expansions into Saskatchewan and Manitoba. To this day. offering everyday benefits and discounts remains the goai of the club. Fabricland Sewing Club Members receive 20% off all regular priced stock in the Store including fabrics, sewing notions and decorating accessories. Pattern discounts vary from 50% off to everyday low prices depending on the brand name. Member's also receive exclusive sale pricing, sales events flyers mailed to their hornes and much more. Last fali Fabricland established their “Deluxe Sewing Club" which offers membership benefits until Dec. 31, 1999. This special membership is only available untid the end of March. The 20th Birthday celebration takes into account the loyalty of the Fabricland k Sewing Club Members as the many bargains and contests are exclusive to members. Every year over 200,000 home sewers join the Fabricland Sewing Club in western Canada. The sewing club concept is so popular and successful that Fabriciand’s slogan “Always innovative sew often imitateu* certainly proves to be true as the majority of their competitor's have established their own versions of the club. In keeping with ongoing consumer demands Fabricland established a website on the internet this past fall. The site allows customers to browse through the sale speciats, enter contests, look at projects and more. The website is updated on a regular basis and continually improves.
