Cyciists and walkers get new crossing on Lynn Creek in readiness for a new bridge across Lynn Creek, designed specially for pedestrians and cyclists. E 2 .y The trail on the west bank of the creek under the “” Keith Road Bridge has also been upgraded as part of this pr aject North Vancouver has many good north-south trans- portation routes but few east-west connestions. The crossing will provide new links between Lyun Valley, InterRiver and Lynmour neighbourhoods, and improve connections to major destinations in the area, such as Capilano College, InterRiver Park, Park and Tilford and Lynn Canyon. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of March with the bridge opening scheduled for early April. News from Around the District of North Vancouver ————————- be | Update on Referendum Projects Alchough there are no ground-breaking ceremonies on the horizon for any of the eight projects approved by voters in the November !9 Referendum, Council has authorized preliminary planning to begin and will be reviewing ang approving aspects of the projects at key milestones. Here is a report on progress to date. Parkgate Community Centre The proposed Parkgate Community Centre is intended to complement the activities of the Parkgate Branch Library, providing a “full service” Civic Centre as a focal point for the community. Working drawings, developed in 1994, proposed a 40,000 sq. fc centre offering a gymnasium, aerobics rooms, arts and craft studios, activity centres for youth and seniors, a child care wing, and community offices. They wili also be considering funding for “| the developmen: and construction of this estimated $8 million community centre. InterRiver Park The firs: phase of this major sports facility and neighbour- hood park project provides for four grass soccer fields and two ball diamonds, a field house and trail improve- ments. A schedute has beer: drafted and financing is being looked at for this four-year project, estimated at $5.5 mil- lion. Work is already underway on initial engineering design of 2 new access road from Lillooet Road, which will shift field-user traffic from local roads. Sports Court in Lynn Valley A technical review committee has been estabiished, with community representatives and users, to discuss issues relating to the new lighted sports court for lacrosse, inline skating, ball hockey and basketball proposed for the Karen Magnussen recCentre, And in Lower Capilano Council is considering establishing a Lower Capilano Community Facilities Committee, which would develop and recommend a strategy for the provision of multi-pur- pose community facilities, a public indeor tennis facility and space for a Heritage Services/ Archives Building in the area.
