Goodwin was predeceased by his parents Goodwin: Gothard and Elyne Walin Sohnson and by his sisters Miriam Johnson and Caroline Byer. He is survived by Mary Edna, his beloved wife of over 50 years, and by his devoted daughters, Caral (Bob) Knifton of Sorrento, B.C., Elyne Johnson of Vancouver, Sarah Rogers ot North Vancouver and Lisa “Johnson of Pasadena, California. Goodwin will be fondly remembered by grandchildren, Tim (Conna), James (Jill), Jeffrey (Summer and Alissa, and many nieces, nevhews and cousins throughout Canada and the United States. An accomplished pianist from the age of 5, Goodwin was a ‘ifelong supporter of music and past Board member of the Na tional Youth Orchestra of Canada. He attended High School in North Van- couver and continued his studies at the U.B.C. School of Theology, teav- ing to enlist in the U.S. Air Force during W.W.II. He was a 2nd Lieute- nant (Air Transport Command) and 4 years overseas, returning to begin his business career in lorestry, shipping and related industries. Dur- ing his active business years, he was President of Goodwin Johnson Ltd. Goodwin was very involved in com- munity affairs and was awarded the status ot Honorary Chief XAPA7AY — (Mother Cedar Tree) by the Squamish (ndian Gand in 1966 in secognition of his work with the Native community. He was a member of the North Vancouver Rotary, founding member of the Squamish Rotary and Past President of the. Burmaby-Hastings Retary. Throughout his life Goodwin was an active sportsman involved in sailing, skiing, tennis, riding and golf. was a member of the first Grouse Mountain. S4i Patrol and was a founding member of the North Van- couver Yacht Club, He was also a member of the Vancouver Club, Capilano Golf Club and Washington Athletic Club. Goodwin's involve. ment with the Anglican Church spanned many years from studying in the seminary as a youth to teaching Sunday School, fund rais- ing and as a member ot the Synod cf St. Johns Church in North Van- couver, He was:a special husband, father, grandlather, friend, businessman and community leader who enriched the fives of others and who aspiced to live his tife in heep- ing with his favorite quote by William Pern: “t expect to pass through file but once.
