You will recall that my presenta- tion was cut short by you on the. ~ grounds of “relevance” to the issue. It was interesting to note that you Jet proponents of the connector rat- ue on with mind-numbing anec- dotes of the district from’50 years ago and even allowed one resident to lecture us on the geography, street layout, and. routing to get from upper Prospect to Capilano Road. I have. been waiting since March 15 for a CT scan, non- emergency, and Health Minister Diane Marleau is laying. down the law as to user fees and extra billing despite the fact that | ~the federal government provides only *,a minor portion of the total health cost. In all these conflicting arguments : there are two salient points that are dened and [ was censured and repeatedly interrupted. It was my intention to outline the recent political history of this issue — much as other speakers had out- lined the 35-year debate over the connector — using number and accountability as the backdrop. Despite your personal biases and your campaign promises, the coun- cif is accountable to the electorate. The electoraté has final say over the issue and nearly 3,000 of those peo- ple have said no to the'connector via petition. 1 know that the petitioners feel that way wot because of “misinfor- mation” as proponents would have you believe. but because [talked to them and more imporiantly listened to them. ‘ Pam constantly amused by elect- ed officials who think that they are larger than the Process. The one common factor that comes through in most is that they do not believe - that they have to unswer to anyone. In-your case. you know you do not have 10 answer to anyone because the fate of your future can- didacy was sealed with your stance on the Cove cand Mountain Forest issue.
