BC Athletics honor runner

Bonnie Walker named Master Athlete of the Year

THREE MEMBERS of
local athletic clubs achieved
provincial-topping success
in their respective disciplines
during 1992,

Bonnie Walker, a member of
the Capilano Eagles Running
Club, was named Female Master
Athlete of. the Year by B.C.
Athletics in January. Women aged
35-and-over qualify for the
master category.

Highlights of Walker’s 1992
season included placing first in the
women’s master division at the
Longest Day !0K; the Columbia
Valley half-marathon and the
Richmond Flatlands 10K. She also
placed first in 20 other races
throughout the year.

Two members of the
NorWesters track and field club
alsc reached the provin-
cial pinnacle, recording B.C. re-
cords in the triple jump.

North Shore high school stand-
out athlete Erin Bell set the B.C.
junior. standard for the event with
a leap of 11.71. metres in Ab-
botsford in July. Bell broke three
records at the North Shore high

school championships last year in
the Iong jump, wiple jump and
100m hurdles.

Erika Forster, also a member of
NorWesters, set the provincial
senior mark with a jump of 11.98
metres in Montreal in June.

The Capilano Eagles Running
club attracts both road and track
runners, offering coaching in both
disciplines. The club is registered
with B.C. Athletics and has

scheduled three to four races for
the 1993 running season.

Members meet twice a week:
Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in the lobby
of the William Griffin recCentre,
