MAILBOX Quebec double standard rankles Dear Editor: During the last two weeks I have read, or have seen on TV, at least five references to the burning of a Quebec flag by a Brockville man. Not once have I seen a reminder of tha: disgusting scene, I believe during the St. Jean Bap- liste parade, of a young man us- ing the Canadian flag to wipe hi backside. : Whereas the Brockville man has apologized, the Reform party has expelled him from its party, and countless politicians, columnists, editors, TV commentators, etc., have erupted in righteous indigna- tion, from Quebec there has been not one single expression of regret for a worse incident. Tiiey are obsessed with the Quebec vote and couldn't care less about the rest of Canada. But editors? Columnists? Provin- cial politicians? Why don’t they point out that there are two sides to the controversy? Do they think that the ordinary Canadian cannot make a reasoned decision when presented with all the arguments? Only one authority has spoken out critically about the inequities in Quebec, and he has been vilified into silence. Trudeau, where are you when we need you? P.G.
