Pull out something light and color- ful, because you are going on a southern vacation. Carol Crenna FASHION STATEMENTS If the shortest.days of the year are beginning to feel like the longest, and festive Christmas ac- tivities have turned to frantic .chaos, indulge yourself in a quick get-away (o a warm climate. For your trip, plan to pack breezy feminine pieces with lots of uplifting color. : - High-powered color will jolt your luggage-sized wardrobe with newfound energy, and pretty pastels will send your spirits soar- ing. It doesn’t take much to transform your attitude from feel- ing tired to terrific, simply by us- ing the healing powers of rest and the rejuvenating aspects of light, colorful clothes. Toronto designer Linda Lund- strum feels that Canadians need a southern vacation. During long, cold -winters, a trip to a warm climate is. an absolute necessity that enables you to make it through the winter, according to Lundstrum. . Linda Lundstrum Ltd. has designed a complete collection of packable pieces for midwinter get-aways to. ‘‘shed not. only heavy winter clothes, but also their worries.” : Lundstrum feels that the colors worn during a vacation can play an important role in speeding up the healing process and providing new energy because of their ‘psychological effects. _ . These pieces will not only aid healing through colors, they will allow for easy mixing and mat- ching so you can pack less, and actually wear more. Her versatile styles are designed to be taken anywhere in a carry-on bag and are as appropriate for the poolside _as they are for a posh restaurant. They are meant to be crushed, tossed in the surf, over-washed and sunbleached. Since Lundstrum feels that all colors have a specific benefit, she encourages women to choose their vacation wardrobe with this in mind. Lundstrum explains: ‘‘You may have noticed that people respond to you differently depending on the color you are wearing. Perhaps a certain color in your wardrobe makes you feel more confident and outgoing. And, what better time to use its powers of rejuvenation than during a holiday away from stress?’’ The cruisewear. ’91 collection includes banana yellow, apricot, blue, lilac, pink and white in voile. Voile is a light, semi-sheer, diaphanous fabric which offers protection from the sun’s rays without added weight or warmth. Lundstrum cuts it in long-sleeved tops, pants and sun robes. She also designs her separates in unconstricting jersey knits and linen weight cottons in clothing with a relaxed fit, nothing coo snug or too contrived in its details. All of the cruisewear is * simply-cut in clean-lined sithou- ettes. For those who feel anaemic or run down, Lundstrum suggests wearing red to help strengthen the blood circulation and give energy, passion and excitement. The line offers a red and white regatta striped dress which is knit- ted with an off-the-shoulder sail- or collar, softly fitted waisted and long, gathered skirt. Lundstrum’s orange silks are thought to “‘help improve one’s physical vitality and sense of joy.” Breezy flowing, wrapped sepa- rates with a tropical feel combine bright blocks of color in orange, magenta and soft green. Yellow is said to promote op- timism and self-confidence in the wearer. Lundstrum adds brighi- ness with a canary-yellow knitted romper which features the ease of jumpsuit, only in a fun mini length with a drawstring waist and zipper front. Lundstrum’s blues are designed to help calm, heal and ‘‘encourage any necessary soul searching’’ that may aid in a healthier mental outlook. ; Monsoon pants, a very loose- fitting shape, and matching camp shirt are shown in a_ graphic printed turquoise blue with vary- ing shades of blue and pink. Pink is supposed to be the color of unconditional love, caring, nurturing. It brings . calmness, promotes healing and _ increases sensitivity and consideration for the feelings of others, according to Lundstrum. Pretty pink over-sized shirt and loose-legged pants are cut in gauze-like voile which sheer at Linda Lundstrum. White, of course, symbolizes purity and cleanliness, perfect for afresh new look at life, and it also looks great with a tan. A regatta striped swimsuit by Lundstrum mixes pure white with calming blue in a maillot style with a twist from the bustline. It slips under a long white robe in airy voile.
