16 - Wednesdas, March 14, 1990 THE NORTH Shore Winter Club Flames’ season came to an end Saturday at the Winter Club when they were blanked 4-0 by the Ab- botsford Pilots and climinated from the West Coast Junior Hockey League quarter-finals in three consecutive games. After a humiliating 9-1 blowout in Abbotsford on March 5, the Flames rebuunded fast Friday in Abbotsford with 60 minutes of the grittiest, total team play of the season. While they came up short with an 8-6 oss, the game produced its share of moments to savor during the off-season: John Cox playing trigger man with four goals and assisted on all four by linemates Brad Costa and Scott Gordon; the defensive play of Wade Bartok who also chipped in with a pair of assists; a devastating mid-ice hit by Kevin Buhr; the penalty k lling of Dave Atkinson; a dazzling coast- to-coast scoring play by Costa and phenomenal netminding by Gary Knight. Unfortunately for the Flames on Saturday at the Winter Club, the rugged play of the earlier game cost them Andrew Wilson out with a shoulder separation, a concus- sion to Tim Stoddart, and a carry-over penalty assessment to Rick Rougeau.
