Scaldaferri has moved from its
old 2395 Marine Drive locale
closer to the heart of Dundarave.

But its menu selection remains
an interesting cross-section of
Italian provincial cuisine.

It offers a full designer line of
meats, pastas, pates, hors-d’oeuvre
for the deli-diner or the take-out
cook.

Special Scaldaferri dishes in-
clude Saltimbocca, Vitel Tonne,
Chicken Breasts with Mushrooms
or Eggplants and Proscuitto,
Lasagne and, as they are fond of
saying in the advertising world,
much much more.

P.J., that lively purveyor of good
quality family, teen and post-teen
grub, has packed his hefty ham-
burgers, milkshakes and other
robust menu items and moved out
of the North Vancouver locale he
has been occupying since 1986.

And that’s too bad.

\ availed myself of P.j.’s hospi-
tality on many Friday evenings. It
was a good place to take kids for a
fast and filling dinner. And it ap-
peared to have a solid following,

The closure of P.f.’s is further
proof that the restaurant trade is a
carnivorous and unforgiving
business.

Carmelo was established in West
Vancouver by Carmelo Sortino
several years ago. And although
Carmelo himself has departed for
distant Vancouver addresses, the
restaurant in West Vancouver,
which was a hit from the start, has
thrived under the direction of
Samuel Bentroudi.

Now, fam, too, has been lured
across the water to open a Van-
couver branch of Carmelo.

The Big City version of Carmelo
opened Jan. 26 adjacent to the el-
egant 21d perennially popular Le
Crocodile.

The new Carmelo will be pit-
ching a more sophisticated reper-
toire at its new clientele than that
pitched by its West Vancouver
progenitor.

The original Carmelo will con-
tinue to pitch the original Italian-
style food that has endeared it to
its faithful North Shore clientele.
