20 - 5 Sundays May: 24, 1987 ~_ North Shore News ee . = library gets jwriter in| lresidence| THE FIRST writer-in-residence program at the North Vancouver City library. is to feature Anne Marriott, who will be hosting a number of events May 26 and 27. “T's the first time we've had a writer in residence at our library,’’ said library spokesman Joyce Moller, who noted a growing need for the attraction. “There are a lot of people out there who want to write but don’t know where to start. (The writer in residence) is for anyone interested in writing.” A few spots are still available for literary consultation with Marriott over the two-day program. On the evening. of May 27, the award- winning writer will host a lecture called So You Want to Write. A ’. question period will follow. “It’s giving ideas where they can find places for their work, where they can be published. Whatever the need is she’s going to flow that way,”” she said. Success will determine if further writer-in-residence events will be held at the library. ‘“Depending on the need for it, we could have one each year.'’ At 10:30 a.m., May 26, Marriott hosts an introduction to poetry for children. During the afternoons of May 26 and 27, she will be available for manuscript consultations. Con- sultations are by appointment only and space is limited. The lecture, So You Want to Write, is scheduled to run from 7 to 9p.m. For. more event details, call the North Vancouver City library at 980-4424, Participaction Challenge set for Wednesday THIS WEDNESDAY North Shore residents are being urged to lace up their sneakers and take the Par- ticipaction challenge with the rest of Canada. Participaction has become an annual event to promote physical activity and the importance it plays in everyone’s lifestyle. North Vancouver this year is out to beat Richmond and Halifax in the Participaction challenge. Residents are asked to do IS minutes of exercise to raise their heart rates and then call 986-2002 to be.counted. The city which has the most participation from its res- idents wins. The headquarter for the challenge is Capilano Mail, where fitness demonstrations, displays and special events will take place throughout the day. Lynn Valley Mall, North Vancouver Recreation Commission and the Lynn Valley Ecology: Centre will also host special activities that day. All of the North Vancouver Recreation facilities will be opened for free that day.
