wy ee pte nt Mailbox immigration white problem Dear Editor: After reading Doug Col- fins’ two-part article on the large numbers of third-world immigrants in Canada, I was amazed at how ignorant he is of the history of world migrations and the large part Europeans have played in it. Whenever economical, po- litical or social problems have made life difficult, it is human nature for people to move on, in search of some- thing better. Unfortunately, too often, those seeking to betier themselves have brought suffering to the live- lihood of others. For exam- ple, 1 was born into a family whose ancestors were kid- napped from their country and forced into slavery by Europeans and their ‘‘cous- ins’’. As a result, my race now populates many coun- tries, to the dislike of the , captor’s off-spring. Africans, Asians, North and South Americans have been invaded by large numbers of European im- migrants. Only then, they called it colonization, a good thing, done in the name of God and country. With the arrival of Westerners, came a diversity of disease, greed and death. -While ‘‘developing’’ these new lands, the settlers systematically and brutally destroyed many cultures and flourishing societies.. And now that the world is greatly influenced by Western ways, - it wants the benefits of that - imposed -ideology. I guess the Founding Fathers never dreamed ‘that. their actions would have undesirable ef- fects for the their future generations. , “Everyone knows that a hypocrite is one who says, “Do as I say, not as I do’. Mr. Collins suggests that it is .Mot good for any more non-whites to immigrate to Canada. If we look back just a few years, we can hear another voice protesting against the immigration of Easten Europeans by established Western Euro- peans living in Canada. Look back further and hear the Europeans protest against the Asians, East In- dians .. back’ to the protest of the large ‘numbers of in- coming Scottish and Irish ... further back, the Native Na- tions realize that the French and British visitors meant to stay. The days of a segregated world are long gone due to the complex systems of world trade and communica- tions. ’ After thousands of years of fighting over land, ideologies and cultures, ~ you'd think that humans would have learned that we've been doing things ~ wrong. Sharing the good in; the world and cooperation are well worth the effort! I'm not changing the sub- s. ject but would fike to close ‘with an interesing observa- tion, Geographically speak- ing, Whites make up about “one fourth of the world population, yet they spend millions of dollars annually, trying to obtain and main- tain “The Dark Tan’’. Now Doug, do you really betieve that more brown faces will make for a worse Canada?
